Black Rock Project

I’ve been photographing this rock at my local beach for the past month or so and am still not completely happy with the results. So I thought I’d share my best photos so far, and explain my vision for this spot. The conditions needed are part of the jigsaw to get the image, firstly there needs to be a swell running (the bigger the waves the better) and this has to combine with a spring high tide. So far these conditions have only been accompanied by flat light and of course, the inevitable rain…

These images are a mixture of colour, and black and white images.

The overcast conditions suit black and white in my opinion, let me know your favourites in the comments below.

I’d love to photograph the black rock with a sunset back drop, like a combination of 005 and this image below. (Taken mid February 2024 on main beach, Woolacombe). Who knows if the conditions will ever align, perhaps not, but that doesn’t stop the planning, the hope and the dream.
