It’s that time of year when the colour pallette of Exmoor changes from pale, warm yellow to pink, lavender and purple.
The moor is alive with the sound of bees and other insects feasting on a banquet of heather nectar.
All three species of heather carpet the moor and this reaches peak purple in late summer;
Common heather (also known as Ling), Bell heather and Crossed-leaved heath heather, all combine (often with a splash of gorse flower) to give a painterly feel – in a Jackson Pollock type way – to the bones of the landscape.
Heather and whortleberries (the European blueberry).
Tree tone.
