I’ve been involved in the surfing side of Boardmasters for many years now firstly as the official photographer in the days of film taking surf action shots for distribution to the surf magazines. Then as an official, mentored by Perry Hatchett, and I was privileged enough to progress onto a memorable international career as an ASP surf judge.
During that time, my annual pilgrimage to Fistral beach in Cornwall, where strangely they eat scones upside down, I have met a host of wonderful and talented people, many of whom I am fortunate enough to call friends.
This years event was as hectic as ever. The shortboard surfing was crammed into two 12 hour days to take advantage of a brief short period swell, while the longboard division took advantage of an unexpected six hour pulse of waves that provided an exciting climax to the contest.
I had the Fujifilm XT-5 coupled with my favourite portrait lens; the 56mm f1.2, in my bag and these are some random snaps what I took of the week.
