Big thanks to the judges who chose “Lundy Lines” from nearly 500 entries to win the 2026 Ilfracombe Photography Festival (IPF) Photo Competition. The theme of the contest was Place and Vision. The festival runs on the weekend of 11th/12th October with a full programme of events hosted by 15 venues in the enigmatic coastal town of Ilfracombe. More details on the festival website:

The photo of Lundy Island that was taken from the sand dunes at Woolacombe has an ethereal feel, but clearly shows detail such as the 3 lighthouses on Lundy, as well as a small flock of gulls in the foreground on Woolacombe beach.

Spooky side note: I received an email from the organisers of the IPF yesterday at about the same time as I was taking this photo – from almost exactly the same spot as the award winning shot. (Well, it was about an hour later and 100 meters south, but that’s near enough to start a conspiracy theory. Hahaha…??) Anyway here’s the pic.
