Between snow flurries and with fading light we spotted this group of mainly stags on a distant hillside. With the wind in our faces and sneaking along a shallow ditch by a Devon bank, we edged up on the herd, they were grazing and we managed to sit and watch them for many minutes. They were just metres away, probably the closest I’ve ever been to these magnicent beasts of Exmoor. The camera soon spooked them and they ambled off into the dusk.
